• The student has to register at the beginning of each each Academic Semester. The registration process is online through the registration system OBIKAS. If you are a newcomer, please follow this tutorial.

Thesis Proposal

• After passing the Qualifying Exam, the student has to register to his/her advisor's section of CMPE790: PHD THESIS. 
• In the first semester, a Thesis Progress Committee (TPC) is formed with three full-time professors*. One of these members should be from another department or university..   

Qualifying Exam 

• The student has to register for the Qualifying Exam at no later than the fifth semester. The registration status has to be Q.

The PhD program at the CmpE department consists of three stages:

Courses (C) + Qualifying Exam (Q) + Thesis (T)

The student is responsible for checking the correct semester type during registration to the Academic Semester and take the necessary actions to correct if there is an error.

• A student may be asked to take remedial courses before starting the regular PhD program. Current remedial courses are six undergraduate courses:
  • CmpE220: Discrete Computational Structures (equivalent: Discrete Math)
  • CmpE250: Data Structures (equivalent: Data Structures and Algorithms)
  • CmpE300: Analysis of Algorithms
  • CmpE322: Operating Systems
