Rules

In principle one presents the topic of the week. The others that is the reader's prepare 3 questions on the topic for in class discussion.

Reader’s Questions

Each person prepares 3 questions. The questions should be printed on A4 paper and submitted at the beginning of the presentation. Use of LaTeX is recommended. Please share your questions in pdf format by sending to the email list after the class. The questions could be on:

  • Finding an error
  • Relating the current topic to other related topics
  • Derivation of an equation

Paper Proposition

Propose your paper by renaming the file as ”FirstAuthorYear-Title-YourNameLastname.pdf”. For example the paper “Tracking evolving communities in large linked networks” written by John Hopcroft, Omar Khan, Brian Kulis, and Bart Selman, published by The National Academy of Sciences of the USA in 2004 proposed by Cafer Demir should be named as ”Hopcroft2004-Tracking evolving communities in large linked networks-CaferDemir.pdf”.

Presentation Order

Presentation order is as given below. Next 4 papers after the last presented paper should be ready for the next week. Please submit your presentation by naming as “nn.ppt” where nn is the presentation number. For example the powerpoint file of the second presentation should be named as “02.ppt”.

Evaluation

Evaluation of the presentation is done in four categories (A, B, C, D) by grading in scale of 5 where 1 means bad, 5 means good. Use this form for your evaluation. Do not forget to write your name in the form.

  • A Paper selection The paper selection measures the quality of the paper and relevance of the paper to the topics.
  • B Understanding of the Presenter Understanding of the Presenter measures the understanding of the material by the presenter, including the related topics. For example if the paper talks about concepts such as “k-means clustering”, “corpus” or “aphasia”, the presenter should be able to explain what it is.
  • C Presentation Presentation is the measurement of the quality of presentation.
  • D I understand I understand is a measure of how well the audience understands the material.

Paper Naming Convention

Use file naming convention as follows

  • <LastNameofTheFirstAuthor>
  • <YearOfPublication>
  • ”-”
  • <FullTitleOfThePaper>
  • ” – ” That is space + - + - + space
  • <ShortNameOfJournal>

For example my paper title “Fame emerges as a result of small memory”, published in “Physical Review E” in “2008” would have a file name:

“Bingol2008-Fame emerges as a result of small memory – PRE.pdf”
