About this course:

In this course we will explore the intersection of the areas of Social Web and Semantic Web. This is an exciting topic that is constantly evolving. For this reason, in addition to our course material, we will make a conscious effort to explore news related to this area. As such, we will utilize blogs, microblogs, wikis to create a collaborative research space to document our learning.

We will be reading articles and exploring supporting technology. Our experiences will be shared during our weekly meetings in class.

Topics include: Social Media Analysis, Social Network Analysis, Semantic Web, W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) specifications and protocols, Cooperation,

Weekly activities

  • Reading and discussing articles
  • Examining semantic web data and applications
  • Writing a blog post and following each others blogs
  • What's new and exciting? There is always news related to our topic. Keep your eyes and ears open and share. Every week we will start our discussions with this item.

Semester Project

  • There will be a semester group project
  • Project concept and progress presentations will be made throughout the semester to relate project experience with course topics.
