Erasmus Exchange Program: Information for Computer Engineering
Students
This page is meant to provide detailed information for computer engineering
students at BU who intend to become an Erasmus exchange student for one or more
semesters. General information on Erasmus exchange is available from EU
Website and Ulusal
Ajans.
Erasmus exchange application has four successive steps. These steps are
identical for undergraduate and graduate computer engineering students at BU.
- Decide on a partner university (Done by the student)
- Set up an agreement between BU and the partner university (Done by the Department Erasmus Coordinator). This is only done if the universities don't already have a valid agreement.
- Apply to the university as an Erasmus exchange student (Done by
the student)
- Apply to funding at BU (Done by the student)
This is what you need to do to get the process started:
- Start looking for universities at least half a year before the
semester in which you intend to go. Usually, it takes at least a
month to get an agreement with a university and roughly 4-5
months to get the funding.
- Choose 3-8 universities (and departments in those universities)
that you would like to go and order them starting from your
favorite one.
- Make sure that you
speak the language of the universities that you have on your list. Most
universities in Europe teach in their native
language.
- Check the curriculum of the universities and have a general
idea of which courses you would want to take. Remember that if
you had stayed here you would have taken 30 ECTS credits. Try to
find universities that offer a number of interesting courses
whose credits will add up to roughly 30 ECTS.
- For each university and
department on your list, find the name and e-mail address of the
department's Erasmus coordinator.
- E-mail the list to me
(pinar.yolum AT boun DOT edu DOT tr) in plain text. No MS Word!
- I will contact the universities on your list one by one until I
can find a university that wants to set up an agreement. Once (or
if) I succeed, then the process moves to Step 2. You will need to
complete some forms that will be available to you from BU
International Office and make your application.
